Cookie Policy

1. Scope

This Cookie Policy ("Policy") explains how the Embassy Row Project ("the Organization"), a philanthropic initiative founded by James Scott and headquartered in Washington, D.C., uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on embassyrowproject.org and all affiliated websites (collectively, "the Sites"). This Policy supplements the Organization's Privacy Policy.

2. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. Cookies enable the website to recognize your device and store information about your preferences or past actions. Similar technologies include web beacons, pixel tags, and local storage objects, all of which are covered by this Policy.

The Organization does not use marketing or advertising cookies. The Sites do not serve targeted advertisements or share cookie data with advertising networks.

4. Analytics and Tracking

The Organization uses privacy-respecting analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Sites. These tools collect:

  • Pages visited and navigation paths
  • Time spent on each page
  • Referring website or search engine
  • Browser type, operating system, and screen resolution
  • Approximate geographic location (country/region level, not precise location)
  • Device type (desktop, tablet, mobile)

Analytics data is aggregated and anonymized. The Organization does not use analytics to identify individual visitors, build user profiles, or track visitors across third-party websites.

5. Third-Party Cookies

Certain third-party services integrated into the Sites may place their own cookies on your device. These include embedded content providers (such as video players or maps) and payment processors. The Organization does not control these third-party cookies and is not responsible for their use. Third-party cookies are governed by the respective third party's cookie and privacy policies. The Organization limits third-party integrations to those necessary for site functionality and service delivery.

For visitors located in the European Union, European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, the Organization obtains consent before placing non-essential cookies (analytics and functional cookies) on your device. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent as they are essential for the Sites to function.

For visitors located in the United States, including California residents, the Organization provides notice of cookie use and the ability to opt out of non-essential cookies in accordance with applicable state privacy laws.

Analytics data derived from cookies is retained in aggregated, anonymized form for up to twenty-four (24) months for trend analysis and site improvement purposes. Upon expiration, cookies are automatically deleted from your device.

10. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia, United States of America, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. For visitors in the European Union, this Policy also complies with the ePrivacy Directive (Directive 2002/58/EC) as implemented in applicable member states.

11. Modifications

The Organization reserves the right to modify this Policy at any time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Where required by law, the Organization will re-obtain consent for cookies following material changes to this Policy.
